The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zidan, discussed today, Saturday, with the Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement, Sheikh Qais Khazali, the violent incidents in the Friday demonstrations.
A statement of the Supreme Judicial Council, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zidan, received the Secretary-General of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement, Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, and discussed with him the violent incidents that accompanied the demonstrations yesterday."
During the meeting, Zidan emphasized that the right of peaceful demonstration and expression of opinion is constitutionally guaranteed.
For his part, Sheikh Al - Khazali stressed that "Those responsible for killing and wounding protesters must be held accountable in accordance with the law."
