The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed, on Monday, the existence of understandings with European and Saudi companies to invest in Iraq, while indicating that the doors are open to proposals and projects for joint and private agricultural investment alike.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Mohammed Al-Khuzai, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministry of Agriculture provided, during the current government, great facilities and opened the doors to investors in support of this vital sector."
He added, "Amending Agricultural Investment Law No. 50 reduced the routine and bureaucracy and encouraged investors, whether inside or outside Iraq, to implement projects in the plant and animal fields."
"Minister of Agriculture Abbas Al-Maliki stressed in a number of his European tours, especially those related to encouraging investment, that Iraq has become a safe and attractive environment in various fields and extended invitations to many companies whose heads and officials he met and explained to them the simplified investment mechanisms and what facilities can be provided in this regard and a number of understandings were achieved."
He pointed out that "the minister also visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he met a number of investors and businessmen in the presence of officials in the Kingdom, and views were exchanged. In fact, a contract was signed with Al-Khuraim Company in Saudi Arabia to provide us with pivotal sprinklers and open the door to understandings for establishing and setting up factories for the company in Iraq by employing Iraqi workers."
He continued that "the doors of the ministry and the Agricultural Investments Department are open at any time to deal with any proposal for joint investment or to establish a private project according to the conditions of the Ministry of Agriculture and the relevant authorities, and this opens the door to employing thousands of workers in various governorates."
