The Ministry of Water Resources reassured, today, Thursday, about Iraq's water reserves for the winter and summer seasons, and while it raised expectations regarding the rainy season, it revealed the size of the agricultural areas that will provide them with water in the winter season.

Adviser to the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab, told Al-Iraqiya Al-Akhbariya, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry's work in drought years is carried out in two frameworks, namely, adaptation to drought and mitigating it, and we have specific water reserves through reservoirs, and they should be accurately calculated in the winter season." .

He added, "If the current year is dry, it is not possible to take risks, especially with water, because the winter season will come after the summer with greater need, so we decided to reduce the cultivated areas in the winter, and the priority in providing water for drinking, watering and securing orchards.".

He added, "The Iraqi individual's consumption of drinking water and human uses should be more careful. The state spends huge sums of money to filter water and add chlorine. Drinking water should not be used for watering gardens or washing cars, for example.".

He warned that "climate changes are an important situation and a danger indicator, as Iraq is going through a drought, and then rainstorms come in limited areas, which causes great damage. Unfortunately, most of the rains do not last more than two hours and do not provide much water.".

He continued, "There are indications that there will be rain during the current month of November and the following December, and we hope for good in good quantities, but the quantities may be less than ambition.".

Regarding the negotiations on the water share with neighboring countries, Diab explained that "the negotiations with the Turkish side have reached a relatively good stage, as the memorandum of understanding between the two countries was approved by the Turkish government and parliament and entered into force and it contains good texts. ".
