The Ministry of Transport, confirmed on Thursday, the resumption of the General Company of Iraqi Airways direct flights from Iraqi airports to airports in Saudi Arabia after it was stalled for nearly two years because of the pandemic Corona crisis.
The ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "after the great efforts that were made, the national carrier resumed its direct flights from Iraqi airports to the airports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after it had been suspended for nearly two years due to the Corona pandemic crisis.".
GCIA also added, "This return took place after high-level coordination with the Pilgrimage Authority and the Saudi side to facilitate the transfer of Iraqi pilgrims in accordance with the instructions stipulated in the two countries.".
Furthermore, "Since the start of operating flights at the end of last August, the company has carried out about 94 flights." indicating that "the number of pilgrims who were transported on these flights amounted to 14,335, and the grouping process was accompanied by an integrated plan of action through which all capabilities were harnessed to ensure the service of the pilgrims.".
