Iraq and UAE sign a contract to build 5 solar power plants

    INA - BAGHDAD 

    Iraq and UAE signed a contract to build 5 solar power stations.

    "By PM Mustsfs al-Kadhimi presence and sponsorship, a contract was signed for constructing five electric power plants using solar energy, between the Ministry of Electricity and the National Investment Authority on Iraq, and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) on the UAE side;  within the first phase, which will include the production and generation of (one thousand) megawatts out of a total capacity of (two thousand) megawatts,” included a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, received by Iraqi News Agency (INA).

    The statement added, "This step is the first practical stage taken by the government to rely on alternative, clean and renewable energies in the production of electrical energy, and to meet Iraq's energy needs,”

    The signing event was attended, according to the statement on the UAE side, by Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, while the Iraqi side was represented in the contract, the head of the National Investment Authority, Suha Daoud Najjar, and the Director General of the Investments and Contracts Department at the Ministry of Electricity Maha Hammoudi, as well as, from the UAE side, the Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Company Future Energy (Masdar) Muhammad Jamil Al-Ramahi.
