Border-Crossing Authority held a meeting with Saudi Arabia at Arar border port, while the head of the Authority, Omar Al-Waeli, confirmed that the obstacles facing trade exchange had been resolved.
Transport and Border-Crossing Ports Committee headed by Al-Waeli, and his accompanying delegation, namely (Director General of the General Company for the Implementation of Transport Projects / Secretary of the Committee, Director General of Exhibitions and Commercial Services, and Director of Legal Custom Affairs in the commission and General Customs-representative of land transport) in the presence of the Saudi ambassador in Iraq headed by the governor of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the head of the Transport Authority and the delegation accompanying them held a meeting on Wednesday, where they discussed the concerned topics and roaming in the port’s corridors, according to a statement by the commission, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Al-Waeli stressed the “points have been established to resolve all obstacles facing the process of trade exchange at the port in order to increase and facilitate the procedures for entering goods into both countries,”
The statement included that "it was also agreed to open a special office to certify certificates of origin after the approval of the Ministry of Commerce and to give facilities and priority to Iraqi importers and exporters alike," noting that "the trade exchange arena was visited and workers were urged to speed up the handling and exchange process as well as complete the requirements,"
The administration of the port was assigned to develop tight plans with the security services and departments operating at the port to ensure the inspection of goods and to prevent the passage of any materials outside controls.
On the other side, Saudi Arabia demanded to “support the port, increase trade and activate transit as soon as possible,”
