Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit said on Wednesday, that confronting corruption is extremely complicated and requires continued cooperation, pointing out that this dangerous phenomenon poses a threat to stability.
"This conference is an important opportunity to fight corruption and recover money," Abul Gheit said in a speech at the start of the looted money recovery conference, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"The most important achievement is an Arab anti-corruption agreement in 2010," he said, adding that "the Arab League pays great importance to fight corruption and coordinating common positions."
"Confronting corruption is very complicated and requires continued cooperation, and I am convinced that Arab cooperation is stifling the corruption," he said.
"All thanks to the ministries and bodies working to fight corruption and recover looted funds," he concluded, adding that "the Arab League stands with all institutions working to fight corruption and recover funds."
The International Conference on the Recovery of Looted Funds in Iraq was launched in Baghdad on Wednesday morning with broad international participation.
"The conference was launched, under the auspices of Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, and with the participation of Arab League President Ahmed Abul Gheit, ministers and heads of the judicial councils and anti-corruption bodies in the Arab countries," INA reporter said.
It’s mentioned that The Integrity Commission announced that Baghdad will host an expanded international conference to recover looted funds on September 15th and 16th.
