Iraqi Radioactive Sources Regulatory Authority confirmed on Friday, the necessity to generalize using "codes" for environmental buildings.

Kamal Hussein Latif, head of the authority, said in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "The use of environmental buildings is necessary in the investment of residential buildings, as well as the use of Thermostone, where the delivery factor is very low compared to other local building materials."

He added that “Following this method of construction reduces half the need for electricity, and reduces the consumption of electricity," noting that "this drives change in modern buildings."

He said that “committee of investment should use environmental codes, insulation buildings or insulating bricks, and insulating walls, which will meet the requirements of reducing the need of public fuels and also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Latif confirmed that "His diroctorate conducted an experiment on a building, during which all lamps were changed and replaced with LED lamps, that more than 77% of the energy was reduced," adding that "it is not about cooling, it is about lighting (with LEDs), because of the significant impact on reducing energy demand."

He continued that “If this topic is generalized, it will save us more than 50% of energy," noting that "the use of (LEDs) helps a lot in rationalizing consumption and reducing the demand for electricity, these measures are included in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and they help reduce emissions with the presence of renewable energy.”

He also said that “If environmentally friendly materials, insulating and non-heat-carrying building materials are used, we will significantly reduce emissions and electricity demand.”
