The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga, Lieutenant-General Jabbar Yawar, revealed today, Friday, the tasks of the Peshmerga forces in the Sinjar district, while stressing that the force responsible for the joint points is under the command of the Federal Ministry of Defense.
Al-Yawar told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministry of Peshmerga is not a party to the governmental agreement taking place over the Sinjar district, given that the Peshmerga forces do not enter the cities," noting that "the agreement was made between the ministries of interior in the center and the region."
He added, "The agreement reached is the formation of police forces affiliated to the Federal Ministry of Interior from the people of Sinjar to maintain security in the judiciary."
Regarding the common points between the center and the region, Al-Yawar confirmed that "two brigades will be formed affiliated with the Federal Ministry of Defense, and the leadership will be for the ministry," noting that "the tasks of the Peshmerga forces will be only to participate in preparing fighters."
He added, "There are no Peshmerga forces outside the region," noting that "the leadership, operations, administration, orders, equipment and salaries are all from the federal government."
On joint military cooperation, Al-Yawar explained that "the Peshmerga forces have meetings and cooperation with the Joint Operations Command," pointing out that "there are two committees to coordinate military actions."
He also indicated that "the coordination center in the provinces of Diyala, Kirkuk, Baghdad, Makhmour and al-Kasak in the city of Mosul, in addition to the presence of six Peshmerga officers working in the Joint Operations Command, coordinating all military operations between the Peshmerga and the federal army forces."
