Baghdad Operations Command revealed procedures to prevent the targeting of the capital's international airport and the headquarters of diplomatic missions.
''Seizure of 18 Grand and Katyusha missiles that were intended to target the airport,'' said Baghdad Operations Commander, Lieutenant-General Ahmed Salim, to Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"Baghdad Operations Command, through the attached units, has taken several measures to prevent targeting the Green Zone, diplomatic missions and the capital's airport with indirect fire," he noted, adding that "the measures included seizing empty spaces were ambushed by the holding units to prevent outlaw groups from using it in targeting operations, in addition to activating the intelligence effort in cooperation with the citizens, as well as holding the checkpoints and searching suspicious wheels.”
Salim added, "These measures resulted in foiling three attempts to target Baghdad Airport from areas nearby the airport," noting that "the security forces in the Second Division of the Federal Police associated with the Baghdad Operations Command managed to seize 10 Grand missiles more than two weeks ago. Before that, it seized eight Katyusha-type missiles that were intended to target the international airport,''
