Baghdad - INA
The Ministry of Migration and Displacement determined the cause of the Ashti camp fire for the displaced in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, while it announced the close of closing two camps housing two thousand families .
The official spokesman for the ministry, Abbas Jahangiz, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "a fire broke out in a number of displaced persons' tents in Ashti camp in Sulaymaniyah, as a result of an electrical short."
He added that "the accident resulted in the death of an eight-year-old girl and the burning of 7 tents," noting that "the civil defense teams were able to control the fire."
"The complex contains 1,400 tents," Jahangiz added, noting that "all the camps have civil defense teams and ambulances for emergency cases."
He stressed "the ministry's keenness to close all camps," explaining that "the closure of the camps in the region is subject to coordination with the Erbil government, in addition to the families' desire to return, as some of them are unwilling to return to their areas of residence, and prefer to stay, for various reasons."
And he indicated that "the camps under the authority of the federal government are Al-Jada'a and Amiriya Al-Fallujah, which contain 2,000 families, and will be closed in the next few days."
