The Independent High Electoral Commission has announced on Sunday that July 12 will be the date for the first simulation of public and private voting.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), today, Sunday, IHEC stated that after concluding the process of drawing the lots of the candidates numbering (3244), whose names were approved by the Board of Commissioners throughout Iraq and allowed them to start campaigning on 8/7/2021, which will continue until Thursday, 7/10/2021. IHEC is preparing to conduct the first simulations of public and private voting, which is scheduled to take place on the 12th of this July, with one station in each of the (1079) registration centers spread throughout Iraq, to ensure the accuracy and speed of electoral electronic devices and the possibility of sending results easily from the stations and received them at the National Office through the specialized employees of the Simulation Committee in cooperation with the “Korean company Miro” and under the supervision of the German Examiner Company and in the presence of the United Nations team Electoral Assistance Unit (UNAMI) and the International Team for Electoral Systems (IFES) with wide media coverage.
IHEC also mentioned in its statement that its work is according to Article 39 of the Elections Law No. (9) of 2020, which stipulates that "private voting shall be (48) hours before the date of the general poll, according to the biometric voter card exclusively. ", and therefore the Operations and Technology Department ended The information of the final deployment schedule for the voters of the the special voting from the security forces, which includes: (Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, Counter-Terrorism Service, Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Region, Ministry of Peshmerga) who will vote for their constituencies using the biometric card as their number reached to (1,075,727) voters distributed among the (595) polling stations and (2,584) polling stations, the aforementioned Department also provide the final table of the IDPs, which numbered 120,126 displaced voters distributed among their polling stations of ( 86 polling stations, with (296) polling stations, as they have the right to vote in the place in which they reside in favor of their original constituency from which they were displaced using the biometric card exclusively in the upcoming election of the Iraqi parliament in the eighth of October of this year.
Within the framework of institutional support for the electoral process, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Jalil Adnan Khalaf, met the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research on 7/8, 2021, to discuss the mechanism adopted by IHEC to implement Cabinet Resolution No. 174 of 2021, which includes deployment of university professors, as It was agreed to assign supervision tasks on polling day to academics from among more than eight thousand professor who are distributed among sixteen electoral centers, and to open training centers in each university in coordination with the electoral offices in the provinces.
