The Security Media Cell announced on Wednesday, the arrest of a gang blackmailing citizens with threats, assassination and compromising them to pay sums of money in Maysan province.
A statement by SMC, received by Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that through the follow-up to the members of the gangs, and after receiving a report from a citizen in Maysan that affirmed that his house was targeted with a grenade, thus judicial approvals were obtained.
The statement continued, A specialized work team was formed by the AIFI’s detachments, who were able to arrest three suspects for whom an arrest warrant was issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 4 anti- terrorism law.
SMC also added, after deepening the investigation, they confessed that they had targeted the complainant's house and other homes with the aim of threatening and extortion, in order to bargain with payment of sums of money in exchange for not harming them.
