Baghdad - INA
The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee expressed on Tuesday, its refusal to target the military bases that include Iraqis, stressing Iraq's need for the presence of foreign technicians to maintain aircrafts.
The head of the committee, Deputy Muhammad Ridha Al Haidar, told Iraqi News Agency (INA) that targeting military bases and airports belonging to the Iraqi armed forces is a mistake and is rejected by the Committee, affirming that Balad base is strategic one and includes aircraft for the Iraqi Air Force like the F16 planes which is already few in number.
Al Haidar also stressed that targeting foreign consultants and technicians in these bases is considered a mistake, explaining that Iraq needs the presence of these technicians to maintain aircrafts.
It is noteworthy that the military bases in Iraq, in addition to the airports, including Baghdad Airport and Erbil Airport, are subjected from time to time to Katyusha rocket bombardment, which leads to injuries among the Iraqi security forces, in addition to causing material damage.
