IHEC Board of Commissioners announced on Sunday, that there is no another extends in the period for alliances and candidates’ registration, affirming that those who withdraw are not allowed to return to the electoral process that is scheduled to take place on the 10th of October.
IHEC stated in statement to Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the final numbers of polling stations of the electoral registration centers have been determined as the number reached to (8273) polling centers, comprising a total of (55041) polling stations, each station receives (450) voters as a maximum, pointing out that the distribution of polling stations is determined based on the data of the ration card and the voter's place of residence.
The Commission continues to receive the answers to verify the eligibility of the candidate and ensure that he is not affiliated with the armed forces and security services, through a specialized committee that studies the answers and prepares its report for the Board of Commissioners to take the necessary decision, notifying that it continues to receive withdrawal requests during the period that started from 13 to 20/6/2021, the statement clarified.
IHEC statement confirmed that their work is determined by tight timings that organize the stages of the electoral process, as it is committed to conducting the election of the Iraqi Parliament on its scheduled date, and it works based on the provisions of the system of certification of candidate lists, which states: "The party has no right to change its candidates or submitting the names of new candidates who had not been nominated before the end of the nomination period, or replacing the previous candidates with other candidates, unless the commission excluded some of its candidates, and requested their replacement with others.
While in the context of empowering women and preserving their rights (candidate and voter) in the upcoming parliamentary elections, IHEC stated that the Member of the Board of Commissioners in the Electoral Commission, Ahlam Al-Jabri, participated, as the head of the Supreme Committee supervising women’s participation in the upcoming parliament elections, in the conference to launch the committee’s plan, which was held by The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers/ Department of Women Empowerment, in cooperation with the United Nations.
IHEC, during the statement, sends reassurance message to the Iraqi street and the international community by expressing its keenness on the integrity of the electoral process by taking the necessary means for its success. -
