Ministry of Health – MOH set a condition to prevent a third wave of the pandemic, while responding to calls for the partial ban to be canceled in the coming days.

"The numbers of the pandemic cases have decreased in recent days, and the rate of hospitalizations has decreased, as this confirms the decline in the epidemiological curve of the second wave, and we expect further decrease in the coming days," said the Director of the Public Health Department, Riyadh Abdul-Amir, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Abdul-Amir added, "The direct cause of the recent decline in injuries is the infection of most of those exposed, and the vaccine has nothing to do with the recent decline, as the proportion of vaccinated people is still few and has no effect,"

"If the number of vaccinated people increases in the coming days, it is possible to prevent the third wave of the pandemic," he explained.

Abdul Amir commented on the requests to cancel the partial ban and the fear of increasing infections, saying, "if there is a commitment by citizens to preventive measures and they continue to do so, we will not expect an increase in the number of infections, and if it continues to decline and the epidemiological situation improves well, there is a plan to cancel the partial ban,"

"There are 3 vaccines currently approved in Iraq, which are Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Cinopharm, given that these vaccines have received approval from scientific organizations and the World Health Organization, and at the present time there is no intention to introduce a fourth vaccine as long as there is a good demand for the three vaccines,” he pointed out regarding the pandemic vaccines.
