IHEC: We are prepared to avoid the challenges of the electoral process

    The Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed, today, Thursday, that preparations are being prepared to avoid any future challenges facing the stages of the electoral process.

    In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Information Office of the Commission stated that “the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf, received at the headquarters of the Election Commission in Baghdad, today, Thursday, May 6, 2021, the British Ambassador Stephen Hickey, and the Director of the Political Department at the Embassy, Laura Kiles.

    Judge Khalaf welcomed, according to the statement, "the interest of the British embassy in following up preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to take place on October 10, 2021," praising Britain's "role in supporting the efforts of the commission through the United Nations mission in Baghdad."

    Khalaf confirmed, "The Independent High Electoral Commission has prepared preparations to avoid any future challenges facing the stages of the electoral process, which are accelerating the pace of preparation for them."

    For his part, British Ambassador Stephen Hickey praised “the efforts made by the Board of Commissioners in order to achieve fair and transparent elections that are different from all previous electoral experiences in terms of participation and the public’s conviction of their processes,” praising the commission’s keenness to communicate with public opinion to explain all its steps on the ground. "

    And the statement continued: "At the end of the meeting, Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf thanked the British ambassador for this visit, which strengthens the value of cooperation between the Commission and the leaders of the international community, given the British interest in achieving stability in Iraq through fair elections."
