The Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed an agreement to legislate a new law for the court competent to prosecute ISIS terrorist criminals.
A member of the committee, MP Hussein Al-Aqabi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "a few days ago, the path that the legal committee would take regarding the legislation of the law of the competent court to prosecute ISIS criminals was discussed."
He added that "there are two opinions within the committee, the first is to amend the law of the Supreme Criminal Court, and the other is to legislate a new law for the court competent to prosecute ISIS crimes," noting that "the committee unanimously agreed to legislate a new law for the competent court."
He continued, "The legal committee will start from today, Tuesday, work on preparing and drafting a draft law in accordance with the rules of international law and Iraqi criminal law, in order to advance it and expedite its inclusion in the agenda of parliament sessions for the purpose of reading it for the first reading.
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan Karim Al-Kaabi, chaired a meeting with the Chairman and members of the Parliamentary Legal Committee to finalize the proposed law to prosecute the crimes of ISIS terrorist elements.
His media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Kaabi chaired a meeting with the head and members of the Parliamentary Legal Committee with the aim of finalizing the proposal for a law to prosecute the crimes of ISIS terrorist gang members."
