Salih: I will agree to hold early elections and the Prime Minister has agreed to resign

President Barham Salih confirmed that he will approve early elections by adopting the new election law and a new election commission.

The President of the Republic, in a speech addressed to the Iraqi people: The Prime Minister had expressed his consent to submit his resignation, asking the political blocs to understand an acceptable alternative in light of the commitment to constitutional and legal contexts and to prevent a constitutional vacuum.

He added that he continues consultations and meetings with various blocs, forces and popular events in order to bring about the desired reforms and within the constitutional and legal contexts to preserve the stability of Iraq and protect public security and promote higher national interests.

 Salih pointed out that the demands of the Iraqi people have put us to the test, and in the afflictions and hardships shows the true and sincere and the real men of the country stressing that the current situation is not sustainable and we really need major changes must be made.

He stressed that quick action is required by the legal responsibility to hold criminals and minors in the use of excessive violence during the recent protests and to bring them to justice through the judiciary and resolve these files with the utmost sense of responsibility, and to work very carefully to prevent any attempt to break the security and not in the hands of uncontrolled and outlaws.
