German Chancellor Angela Merkel began her political activism after the summer recess with a meeting with an old friendin a museum in her district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Before a political debate and a meeting with readers of a local newspaper, Merkel stopped at the Museum of Nature in Stralsund to visit the female penguin Alexandra, who was adopted by Merkel in 2011.
