The Supreme Judicial Council(SJC) announced on Tuesday the arrest of individuals accused of practicing witchcraft and sorcery in several governorates.
A statement issued by the council, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "as part of the efforts of the judiciary and security agencies to combat deviant phenomena, a number of individuals accused of practicing witchcraft and sorcery were arrested in a number of Iraqi governorates. All legal measures were taken against those involved."
The Supreme Judicial Council warned citizens "against visiting places used for practicing witchcraft and sorcery, as their owners engage in immoral acts that are exploited to blackmail innocent victims."
