The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief, Sabah al-Numan, denied on Thursday the formation of a security crisis cell regarding developments and border issues with Syria.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Numan said, "Some social media and news websites have circulated reports about (the existence of a decision by the Iraqi government to form a security crisis cell headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to monitor developments and control the Iraqi-Syrian border. This is within the framework of continuing cooperation between neighboring countries to establish a strategic center to ensure security in the region)."
He added, "While we deny this news, we emphasize the need to obtain news exclusively from official sources and avoid rumors."
He continued, "We also affirm the directives of the Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to the Communications and Media Commission to take the necessary legal action against satellite channels and news agencies that deliberately promote misleading news."
