Real Madrid and Brazil star Vinicius Junior criticized the Selecao's performance following their 4-1 defeat to Argentina in the 14th round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Vinicius said in press statements: "We played very poorly, while Argentina played a great match in front of their fans."

He added, "We have to rethink everything we did. This can't happen. We must improve and not give up. There's only one year left until the World Cup."

He continued, "Today we entered the dressing room and there wasn't much to say. Let's reflect a little on what we did on the pitch."
He concluded, "We need changes in the national team. I played in one World Cup and lost, and I don't want to lose another one." Brazil's points tally froze at 21 points in fourth place following the loss, while Argentina topped the standings with 31 points, having already qualified for the World Cup before the Brazil match.
