Russia appoints new ambassador to the United States

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today, Friday, the appointment of Alexander Darcheyev as Russia's new ambassador to Washington. The ministry reported that "Washington sent us an official note approving the appointment of Darcheyev as Russia's new ambassador to the United States."

This appointment comes at a time when Russian-American relations are witnessing remarkable developments, as talks between Russian and American officials began in Istanbul on Thursday morning. These talks aim to find a settlement to the crisis in Ukraine, in light of the ongoing rapprochement between Moscow and Washington.

Darcheyev previously held the position of head of the North American Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, and was his country's ambassador to Canada.
