Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed, today, Monday, to complete the third phase of the reconstruction of Rashid Street in record time.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting today, Monday, to discuss the third phase of the Al-Rasheed Street rehabilitation project. The meeting was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank and members of the Iraqi Private Banks League, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to restore Baghdad’s historic landmarks and streets in a manner befitting its status as the capital of Iraq.
The discussions focused on the legal and financial mechanisms necessary to facilitate the project’s implementation. An agreement was reached on a framework to ensure the smooth transfer of funds from the Central Bank, donor entities, and state institutions to the implementing agency, which operates under the oversight of the Iraqi Private Banks League.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the types of businesses and crafts present on Al-Rasheed Street, emphasizing the importance of engaging business owners in developing a strategy that preserves the street’s historical and cultural identity following its rehabilitation. The designated committee was tasked with completing this study while also identifying suitable alternatives for large storage facilities and commercial shops.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani directed that this phase of Al-Rasheed Street’s reconstruction be completed within a short timeframe, adhering to the highest standards and requirements.
