The head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali al-Lami, discussed on Friday with the United Nations the mechanism of international cooperation to recover smuggled funds.
The Integrity Commission said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The head of the Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali al-Lami, discussed with the Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqzai, the mechanism of international cooperation to recover smuggled funds.”
“Corruption is a cross-border crime that needs international cooperation to curb it,” said the head of the Integrity Commission Mohammed Ali al-Lami during the meeting, according to the statement.
For his part, the Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ghulam Mohammad Ishaqzai, expressed his readiness to “overcome the obstacles that prevent Iraq from recovering its smuggled funds.”
