The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the foundation of a directorate to combat cybercrime.
"With the aim of supporting security work in combating crime in all its forms, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has approved the proposal of the Minister of Interior to establish a directorate to combat cybercrime," said a statement from the ministry obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"The new directorate will work on investigating crimes committed through social media," the ministry added.
"This step came with the direct support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and under the supervision of the Minister of Interior to prevent or limit such cybercrimes," it added.
