Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shimmari confirmed on Tuesday the agreement with the Moroccan side to sign a memorandum of understanding and security cooperation between the two countries.
"Al-Shimmari met with his Moroccan counterpart Abdelouafi Laftit in the Kingdom of Morocco, where the meeting came to enhance cooperation and joint coordination between Iraq and Morocco," said the media office of the Minister of Interior in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The statement added that "Al-Shimmari extended an official invitation to his Moroccan counterpart to visit Iraq," noting that "it was agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding and security cooperation between the Ministries of Interior in the two countries, during the visit of the Moroccan Minister of Interior to Baghdad."
Al-Shimmari explained that "the memorandum of understanding will include cooperation in combating organized crime, combating drugs, training and exchanging expertise, in addition to several other topics of common interest."
In turn, the Moroccan Minister of Interior confirmed that "relations between Iraq and Morocco are close and solid," noting that "there are ongoing meetings between the two countries, whether in Iraq or Morocco," stressing that "the visit of the Iraqi Minister of Interior to Morocco represents an important opportunity to strengthen and develop bilateral relations."
