Mohammed Shukri Jamil dies at age 88

    The Prime Minister's Advisor for Cultural Affairs, Aref Al-Saadi, announced today, Monday, the death of the great director, Mohammed Shukri Jamil.

    Al-Saadi said, in a brief statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The great Iraqi film director, Mohammed Shukri Jamil, passed away this morning."

    Al-Saadi offered his "deepest condolences and sympathy to the great artist, Fatima Al-Rubaie, to the family of the deceased, and to the artistic and cultural community in Iraq."

    He worked in editing the historical film (Nebuchadnezzar) directed by Kamel Al-Azzawi, which is considered the first Iraqi color film, then he directed the film ( Shayef Kheir) in 1968, and directed the film (The Thirsties) in 1973, which was based on the novel by the Iraqi writer, Abdul Razzaq Al-Muttalibi, then directed his great film (Al-Asuar) in 1979, which talks about the struggle of the Iraqi people and their standing with the Egyptian people in the face of the tripartite aggression after the nationalization of the Suez Canal in 1956, and the outbreak of the 1956 uprising in Iraq.

    In 1982, he directed the film (The Clash of Loyalties), in which foreign actors participated alongside Iraqi artists, including the international actor, Oliver Reed,  “Clash of Loyalties”, which is considered one of the largest productions of Iraqi cinema, and talks about the struggle of the Iraqi people against the British occupier and the revolution of 1920. In 1982, he directed the film (The continuous Mission) and has several films, including (The Knight and the Mountain), (Iraqi Wedding), (The Game), and (King Ghazi).
