ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday said he trusts Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni when asked by a reporter whether the prime minister would help Ukraine with the new administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Zelensky held talks in Rome with Meloni on Thursday night and with Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Friday morning.
"I trust her", the Ukrainian president said of Meloni when a Rome daily Il Messaggero reporter asked him whether he thought the Italian premier would help Ukraine deal with Trump.
"It was a very positive meeting", Zelensky also said of the bilateral talks with Meloni.
"I have an excellent relationship with the prime minister.
"And I thank her for the support she is giving to Ukraine", added Zelensky.
During the meeting on Thursday night, a note issued by Meloni's office at Palazzo Chigi explained, the Italian premier "expressed solidarity with the victims of the recent Russian bombings and reiterated the 360-degree support that Italy assures and will continue to assure to Ukraine's legitimate defence and to the Ukrainian people, to put Kyiv in the best possible condition to build a fair and long-lasting peace".
Meloni has been among Ukraine's staunchest supporters in its war to fend off the Russian aggression.
