Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid on Wednesday urged continued efforts to release detainees and prisoners who have completed their sentences.

In a statement, the presidential office said Rashid met with Justice Minister Khalid Shwani at Baghdad Palace, where they discussed the ministry’s plans and its work on improving prison conditions and judicial operations.

Rashid stressed the need for ongoing coordination among members of a joint committee to expedite the release of those who have served their terms or whose convictions have been overturned by the Court of Cassation.

He also called for improved communication between the Justice Ministry and related agencies to streamline citizen services and reduce bureaucratic delays, ensuring the protection of their rights.

Justice Minister Shwani thanked Rashid for his support and emphasized the ministry’s commitment to justice reform, fighting corruption, and enhancing prison conditions. He outlined the ministry’s future plans aimed at upholding justice and integrity.
