Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, the Speaker of the Parliament, emphasized today, Thursday, the need to bolster international efforts to oppose Zionist aggression against Syria and to promote regional unity.
"The Speaker of the Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, met with the Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, Ahmed Al-Safadi, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, a number of ambassadors and heads of Arab diplomatic missions accredited to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan," according to a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) from the Speaker of the Parliament' media office.
The statement explained that "the meeting addressed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, as well as ways to enhance cooperation between Arab and Islamic countries and discuss a number of hot issues that constitute a priority for the peoples of the region."
It added, "The importance of enhancing joint Arab cooperation in facing regional challenges was emphasized, most notably the Palestinian issue, which remains the central issue for all Arab countries, as the need to end the brutal war waged by the usurping Zionist entity, and the support of the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state were also emphasized. The meeting also addressed the situation in Lebanon and ways to support the stability of this brotherly country in the face of ongoing crises."
The statement continued, "The meeting reviewed the situation in Syria, and emphasized standing by the brotherly Syrian people in their efforts for stability and national unity, and the need to strengthen international efforts to reject the Zionist aggression on its lands and sovereignty, and support the unity of Syrian lands and help it overcome its ordeal."
According to the statement, the attendees stressed "the need to enhance coordination in international forums, in a way that achieves the mutual interests of all Arab and Islamic countries and strengthens their positions in facing global challenges."
The meeting was attended by a number of members of the Iraqi Parlaiment, and the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan, Omar Al-Barzanji.
