Government spokesman Basim Al-Awadi confirmed on Friday that Iraq “does not seek military intervention in Syria,” indicating that the division of Syria is “a red line for Iraq.”

"Iraq was able to overcome the challenges facing the region and was not exposed to a financial or political crisis. If it weren't for the events in Gaza, our situation would have been better," said Al-Awadi in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

He added that "the threats directed at Iraq were frightening. Iraq is with the unity of Syrian lands and rejects any infringement on the unity of Syria and exposing the Syrian people to more suffering and pain."

“Everything that is happening in Syria is related to Iraqi national security. Iraq is working hard to find a balanced political solution to the recent repercussions," he noted.

Al-Awadi stressed that "the division of Syria is a red line for Iraq," indicating that "Iraq is still an active part of the international coalition to defeat Daesh in Syria and Iraq."

"Iraq will not tolerate any attack on its security and sovereignty. The Iraqi government is currently making exceptional political and diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the crisis in Syria," he highlighted.

He concluded by saying, "Iraq does not seek military intervention in Syria."
