Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed today, Monday, the launch of renewable energy projects early next summer.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a special meeting of the National Renewable Energy Team."
According to the statement, al-Sudani directed "the launch of renewable energy projects early next summer." He also directed "the need to streamline procedures and remove obstacles facing these important projects, and to provide opportunities for private sector companies in Baghdad and other governorates, in coordination between the National Renewable Energy Team and the Higher Coordination Authority between the Governorates, and to regulate the collection project among its relevant entities."
"During the meeting, several projects were discussed, including the project to convert government buildings to solar energy. The smart solutions project at the Al-Budour residential complex was also discussed, as well as the referral of tenders for projects including 100 schools and five health centers to transition to renewable energy.
Preparations were also made for a national conference sponsored by the Prime Minister and the National Renewable Energy Team to launch rapid smart energy solutions."
"A decision was made at the meeting to grant preliminary approval for the construction of two solar power plants on both sides of Rusafa and Karkh, each with a capacity of 20 megawatts. The Ministry of Electricity will begin installing two more plants, each with a capacity of 3 megawatts, as part of the solar power plant project at the Army Canal site."
