Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced today, Thursday, that MoUs will be signed with Spain, while he indicated that he had communicated with the team of US President-elect Donald Trump.
The Prime Minister said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA),” We are at a remarkable phase in relations with Spain, marked by a mutual desire to strengthen and develop ties in all fields.”
Spain is part of the Global Coalition that supported us in defeating the terrorist organization ISIS. At our request, the coalition’s mission will end within two years, as its presence is no longer justified.
Our security forces have achieved a high level of capability, and the country’s political stability is now evident in its overall conditions.
Our relationship with the United States is institutional and based on the Strategic Framework Agreement. We are also in communication with Trump’s team, which has expressed a desire to further develop relations with us.
The ceasefire agreement in Lebanon marks a significant milestone, and we hope it will extend to Gaza, fostering greater stability across the region.
Our laws prohibit recognition of the Zionist entity. The Palestinians are the rightful owners of their land and cause, and it is up to them to determine the solution to their cause.
Spanish companies are present in Iraq, particularly in the railway and transportation sectors. We are eager to attract more Spanish companies due to their efficiency and expertise in executing projects.
We will sign several memoranda of understanding with Spain, with financial allocations ranging from €200 million to €1 billion to fund projects executed by the private sectors of both countries.
A $250 million railway project has been awarded to a Spanish company, and negotiations are underway with another Spanish company for a high-speed train project between Najaf and Karbala governorates.
