Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency INA that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received today, Tuesday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and his accompanying delegation, which included Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, Russian Presidential Envoy to the Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov, and First Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Pavel Sorokin.
The statement read "The meeting discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop and strengthen them in various fields, particularly in energy, artificial intelligence applications, and digital cooperation. The discussions also emphasized the significance of the historical ties between Iraq and Russia, as the two nations mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations."
It further said "Prime Minister Al-Sudani expressed Iraq’s desire to establish mechanisms for advancing relations with the Russian Federation in a manner that ensures mutual benefits and serves the shared interests of both countries."
The statement added that Deputy Prime Minister Novak conveyed the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Al-Sudani, reaffirming Russia’s commitment to cooperating with Iraq. He highlighted the progress achieved following Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s visit to Moscow in October of the previous year and the agreements reached to serve the interests of both nations.
