The International Organization for Migration enumerated, today, Sunday, the most prominent achievements of the Integrated Support Project for the Iraqi Agricultural Sector, while indicating the aspiration to sustain the partnership with the European Union and support the Iraqi government in developing the agricultural sector.
IOM Representative Carlona Panchetti said in a speech during the meeting (Integrated Support for Job Creation in Iraq, through the Development of the Value Chain for Agricultural Business and Financial Inclusion) attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "This initiative, which lasted for four years, concludes this year and was allocated to developing the private agricultural sector, supporting agricultural businesses and developing the economy," indicating that "the Agricultural Sector Business Development Fund is the cornerstone of this project that targets agricultural sector business owners and supports small and medium-sized business owners through the Agricultural Sector Project Development Fund, which received a lot of support and contributed to expanding economic recovery in Iraq through the production of agricultural crops and creating job opportunities for workers in this sector."
She added, "This year, the project succeeded in supporting 298 projects with about $4,000,000 in financial support. This support has directly facilitated sustainable job opportunities for many in all parts of the agricultural sector. Small and medium-sized businesses have also benefited from capacity-building training workshops to learn the skills and knowledge required for sustainability in working in this sector.
This included training in project management and marketing strategy, in addition to agricultural projects that aim to strengthen competition in this sector. The agricultural sector continues to be the cornerstone of the Iraqi economy due to its great importance to a large number of citizens and its major role in food security, which is essential to the country and long-term economic stability through the great efforts we have made in developing the agricultural sector, in addition to alleviating poverty, sustainability and resilience in the agricultural sector."
Panchetti expressed her gratitude "for this continuous support and engagement in the project over the past four years," expressing her thanks "to the European Union for its continued support to the International Organization for Migration."
She stressed, "We look forward to the sustainability of this partnership and supporting the Iraqi government in further developing the agricultural sector, which continues to be one of the country's economic priorities for the future."
