President Barham Salih highlighted the importance of stepping up efforts to attach appropriate attention to the internally displaced persons IDPs and refugees throughout Iraq and to diligently work to remove the remnants of mines and explosives from the liberated areas.
His Excellency received Mr. Peter Maurer, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and his accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, February 3, 2019.
During the meeting, President Salih demonstrated the importance of promoting humanitarian volunteerism and providing help to the displaced families, notably in the area of health and psychological care.
The President commended the vital role played by the international organization and other voluntary organizations within the country to meet the humanitarian, medical, and living needs of the IDPs and those affected by the terrorist operations.
For his part, the Head of ICRC reviewed the organization's efforts in Iraq and the services it provides in this regard especially in tracing people who have gone missing and finding out their fate.
Mr. Maurer lauded President Salih’s efforts and His Excellency’s great interest in the role of voluntary and humanitarian organizations.
