President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed on Thursday the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iraq and the International Atomic Energy Agency in the field of peaceful energy use.
The Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the President of the Republic received at his residence in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, the Executive Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, as part of his meetings during his participation in the United Nations Climate Summit (COP29)."
The President of the Republic, according to the statement, stressed "the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iraq and the International Agency in the field of peaceful energy use, and supporting Iraq's endeavors in this path in various aspects to revive its economy and benefit from its wealth in a sustainable manner."
The president pointed to "the importance of continuing joint work, and called on the organization to strengthen its work with the concerned Iraqi authorities."
For his part, Fatih Birol expressed "the support of the International Energy Agency for Iraq's endeavors," stressing "the agency's aspiration to strengthen cooperation and coordination with the relevant Iraqi institutions," noting "his intention to visit Iraq to pursue this joint work seriously."
