The Ministry of Interior confirmed on Wednesday outlining aspects of the fight against human trafficking, indicating the continuation of the elimination of this act.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement obtained by by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "continuous efforts and continuous work by the Supreme Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, headed by Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, to combat this crime, as man was born to live in dignity and freedom," pointing out that "these efforts have met with the satisfaction and approval of many parties inside and outside the country, including what the United Nations announced about Iraq's completion of standard operating procedures to investigate cases of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants."
"A statement issued by this global organization confirmed that the Iraqi authorities have developed these operational procedures through partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the European Union, as part of the Global Initiative to Combat Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants, to provide officials with the basic tools to effectively investigate in order to eliminate this crime," the ministry added.
It pointed out that "the Ministry of Interior is proceeding with all its strength and capabilities in enforcing the law, eliminating this illegal act, ensuring justice, convicting perpetrators and protecting the rights of victims," noting that "the staff of the Ministry of Interior concerned with combating human trafficking has drawn clear features in its work, which depends mainly on intensive intelligence effort and coordination with neighboring and friendly countries in this field."
The ministry explained that "Allah Almighty honored man and endowed him with freedom since birth, but Unscrupulous people did not take into account heavenly legislation or man-made laws and are trying in one way or another to trade in human beings as if it were a cheap commodity," noting that "the men of the Ministry of Interior rolled up their sleeves to beat human traffickers with all the power Allah has given them."
It also pointed out that "the United Nations' emphasis on the Ministry of Interior's record investigations into human smuggling cases is a testimony that the ministry is proud of and a great motivation for it to move forward on the path of cooperation with the international community and combat this crime," adding that "the Ministry of Interior can only extend thanks and appreciation to those who appreciate its efforts in redressing the oppressed, assisting victims and enforcing the law in coordination with the fair Iraqi judiciary."
