The inaugural Global South Media and Think Tank Forum officially opened on Monday in São Paulo, Brazil.
Co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), the forum, under the theme “Development and Revitalization: A New Journey for the Global South,” witnessed broad participation from a diverse range of countries, media institutions, think tanks, and telecommunications companies.
During the opening ceremony, Xinhua News Agency President Fu Hua welcomed the attendees and expressed his gratitude to the co-organizer, the Brazilian national broadcaster EBC.
He emphasized that " The wheels of history keep turning, and the rise of the Global South is an unstoppable trend. The nations of the Global South are advancing together toward modernization, becoming an increasingly influential force on the world stage and achieving unprecedented milestones in the progress of human civilization."
Fu also noted, " Today, in keeping with global trends and responding to widespread expectations, we gather to host the inaugural Global South Media and Think Tank Forum. The timing is both fitting and opportune."
He further added, "We are deeply honored by the congratulatory messages sent to the forum by President Xi Jinping and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva."
Sattar Al-Ardawi, Director of the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stressed that "achieving balance in the media discourse of the Global South is a challenge that requires significant effort and widespread cooperation."
He continued, "Our meeting calls for a realistic, actionable vision that is both practical and easy to implement."
Al-Ardawi also emphasized the importance of "establishing an international media alliance capable of keeping pace with global developments, offering a truthful and objective portrayal of events, and ensuring a unified voice in support of common and pivotal causes."
In closing, Al-Ardawi expressed his sincere thanks to Xinhua News Agency for its pioneering role in organising international conferences that contribute significantly to the global media landscape.
