the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Mohammed Abboud Al-Amiri, discussed on Monday, the foundations of the principle of separation of powers according to the Iraqi constitution.
A statement issued by the media of the Federal Supreme Court, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Mohammed Abboud Al-Amiri, received the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court."
It added, "The Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court welcomed the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and congratulated him on assuming the position of Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives."
It pointed out that "during the meeting, the procedures for implementing the constitution and adhering to the limits of the constitutional powers of the federal authorities were discussed, as the constitution is based on the principle of separation of powers and that the aforementioned separation should be based on integration and cooperation, which leads to building a correct democratic system based on the principle of peaceful transfer of power and the participation of all in political life, which leads to preserving the unity of Iraq and achieving the noble and lofty goal of building a modern civil state based on citizenship."
