Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced today, Saturday, that his country will send another 5,000 soldiers and 5,000 police officers to the eastern region of Valencia, after devastating floods that occurred this week, killing more than 200 people.
Rescue workers were still searching for bodies in trapped cars and submerged buildings on Saturday, four days after massive flooding swept away everything in its path in eastern Spain.
An unknown number of people are still missing, and thousands of volunteers are helping to clear the thick silt that has covered everything from streets to homes and business premises in the worst-hit towns.
Some 2,000 soldiers are taking part in the emergency operations, in addition to some 2,500 Civil Guard gendarmes, who have carried out 4,500 rescues during the floods, and 1,800 National Police officers.
