Acting Speaker of the Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi stressed on Thursday the need to resolve the election of a new speaker of the Parliament.
Al-Mandalawi said, in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The representatives of all components must be present in the Council Chamber to cast their votes to decide the selection of a head of the legislative authority," stressing "the need to keep political disputes and differences away from this important file, and that all national forces work with the principle of care and responsibility to complete the constitutional entitlements, which are long overdue."
He stressed the need for "the session to lead to the election of a president who contributes to continuing steps to strengthen the oversight and legislative role of the Parliament," noting that "deciding the election on this day is a merit for a partner component and a basis in the political process."
