Minister of Social Affairs and Labours Basim Abdul Zaman called for amending Disability Welfare Act according to the UN agreement for the rights of the special needs.
“This category of community is not having the rights fully in much legislation and not even on politics, social and economic wise,” said Abdul Zaman during a workshop to amend the Disability Welfare Act.
He stated that it is highly necessary to make new statistics regarding the numbers of the special needs cases due to the situations that Iraq went through recently that made these numbers to increase more than before.
“The government wants to give the full rights to this category, yet the mechanisms are not provided. The resolution starts from applying the terms of the UN agreement of the special needs that Iraq has signed in 2003,” he added.
