Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadhil discussed today, Monday, with the French company Total the stages of implementing the work on the solar power plant in Basra Governorate.
The ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadhil held an important meeting today, Monday, with officials of the French company Total to discuss the developments of the solar power plant project in the Artawi field in Basra Governorate."
The minister indicated according to the statement "the completion of all procedures related to the delivery of the land allocated for the project."
The officials of the French company - according to the statement - presented a detailed presentation on the location of the station and the connection lines associated with it, which include two lines towards Basra Governorate and a third line towards Dhi Qar Governorate.
The Ministry of Electricity noted that "the production capacity of the station is scheduled to reach 1000 megawatts, as the connection contract will be signed with the General Company for Transmission of Electricity in the South within the next two weeks."
According to the statement "Total, the implementing company, is currently continuing the mine clearance work at the site designated for the station, as part of the safety procedures followed before starting construction operations." It added, "This project is an important step taken by the government and the Ministry of Electricity towards enhancing clean energy production in Iraq and diversifying sources of electricity to meet the growing needs in the southern region of the country."
