The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Marshes announced on Monday the start of work on concrete blanket technology in Alkhandak river in Basra, stressing the need to restore the rivers of Basra province to what they were.
The media department of the parliament, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the head of the parliamentary committee on agriculture, water and marshes, MP Faleh al-Khazali, visited today the Public Authority for the Operation of Irrigation and Drainage Projects at the Ministry of Water Resources to follow up on the ministry's preparations to implement the winter agricultural plan and was received by the director general of the authority, Ahmed Kadhem."
According to the statement, Al-Khazali stressed his "full support for the ministry's efforts in managing water resources, especially in light of the challenges facing the country due to water scarcity," noting "the importance of communication to achieve sustainable development in the water sector."
He pointed to "the need to form a special operations room in the authority to follow up the implementation of the winter plan and the investment plan projects of the authority and the directorates of the governorates,” noting "the province of Basra deserves a lot and its rivers must be returned to what they were, and we hope that the province will take care of these projects and support them.”
