Basra hosts a meeting of the Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding for the Development Road

    The Ministry of Transport announced today, Wednesday, that a meeting will be held in Basra for representatives of the countries that signed the Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding for the Development Road, headed by Iraq and with the membership of Turkey, Emirates and Qatar, noting that the economic feasibility study of the project will be discussed and the important paths for proceeding with its implementation will be determined.
     
    The Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "According to the directives of Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani and Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, on the necessity of accelerating the work steps in the Development Road project, a meeting was held for representatives of the countries that signed the Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding for the Development Road, headed by Iraq and with the membership of Turkey, the Emirates and Qatar."
    Al-Fartousi added, "The meeting was chaired by the Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iraq, Nasser Al-Asadi, while the Qatari delegation was headed by the Advisor to the Land Transport Sector, Ramzi Mohammad Al-Assar, and the UAE delegation was headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Youssef Abdullah Ali, in addition to a high-level delegation from Turkey," noting that "the meeting was attended by the Director General of the Iraqi General Railways Company, Engineer Jabbar Aliwi, and the Director of the Development Road Project, Safaa Jabbar Nasser."
    He explained, "There will be extensive discussions to complete the approval of the economic feasibility study and determine the important paths to proceed with the implementation of this project."
    He indicated that "this project will benefit all members within the quadripartite agreement as well as all neighboring countries."
    Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sponsored the signing ceremony of a quadripartite memorandum of understanding between Iraq, Turkey, Qatar and the UAE in Baghdad at the end of April 2024, aiming at joint cooperation on the strategic (Development Road Project), in the presence of members of the Turkish and Iraqi delegations, including ministers and advisors.
    The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Iraqi side by Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, on behalf of the Turkish side by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Oral Oglu, on behalf of the Qatari side by Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, and on behalf of the UAE side by Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohammed Al-Mazrouei.
    The memorandum includes the signatory countries setting the necessary frameworks to implement the project, which is one of the most prominent transportation projects in the region, by linking the East to the West via the Grand Faw Port.
