Agriculture Minister Abbas Al-Maliki announced on Wednesday, the achievement of self-sufficiency in key strategic crops, emphasizing the importance of enhancing international relations to secure sustainable food security.

In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Maliki highlighted that "food security is a fundamental element for the stability of the people and the political stability as well."

He affirmed that "the Iraqi government is committed to significantly supporting this sector" and noted that "the ministry has successfully achieved self-sufficiency in vital strategic crops."

He added, "We are working to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, as food security extends beyond Iraq’s borders and is influenced by regional conditions. This is particularly relevant given the ongoing crises in Lebanon and Palestine, which clearly impact the smooth supply and movement of food products."

Al-Maliki concluded by stating that "Iraq is committed to participating in all conferences and initiatives with neighboring countries to achieve sustainable food security and self-sufficiency."
