Syndicate of Iraqi Pharmacists announced on Wednesday, that the private sector now provides 70% of Iraq’s medications and medical supplies, alongside the launch of cancer drug production in line with global standards.
Usama Hadi Hamid, the syndicate’s spokesperson, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the private sector contributes more than 70% of citizens’ needs for medications and medical supplies,” highlighting the sector’s essential partnership with the Ministry of Health in meeting the demands of public and private healthcare facilities.
He noted that the recent surge in national pharmaceutical activity, supported by the government, has made available many medicines that were previously imported, including cancer treatments.
The Ministry of Health is working to source cancer drugs both through imports and local production, as some Iraqi pharmaceutical factories have started producing these drugs according to international standards.
Hamid emphasized that the ultimate goal is full integration in meeting Iraq’s pharmaceutical needs to enhance healthcare services nationwide.
